New to dvd ripping
New to dvd ripping
I am new on here and would like some help if possible. I want to take my movie on the go on my nexus and tried to rip the movie to my desktop but it gives me a bunch of files. Is there a way to make a single file so i can put on a thumb drive or can someone recommend an easier way to do this please. Thanks
Re: New to dvd ripping
Well, each file created by MakeMKV is a "title" from the disk, similar to a "track" from an album.
Are you trying to preserve menus and all features as a "single file"? If so, you are essentially looking to rip to an ISO of the disk, and there are other tools for that. Some are free, some cost money, but they usually will remove the encryption from the "disk", and your player software will treat it as if you'd inserted the DVD... including making you watch the advertising some disks include.
MakeMKV is intended for getting "just" the features you want, saving each title to a file for playback (or processing by other tools).

Re: New to dvd ripping
I dontcare for the menus just the movie itself. i wanna be able to take it on the go, wheather on my tablet or laptop. preferably nexus 7 tablet... i dont care for the extras and the menus just the movie itself. Any recommendations? by the way i use a mac for my home computer. thanks
Re: New to dvd ripping
Then MakeMKV is one of the tools you want. The other will be Handbrake (available at handbrake.fr). While Handbrake can function stand-alone on the Mac to rip DVD tracks, there are some it does not understand, and Bluray disks have to be decrypted first. But Handbrake works just fine on MKV files created by MakeMKV, so you can cover just about all the bases between the two.
Rip the titles you want with MakeMKV to MKV files on your hard drive. Then, Handbrake can recode them to optimize them for your mobile usage.
