Crashing/ Freezing mid-rip

Post by thedigitalhobo »

I've been having some problems for a while now. First they were intermittent, but now it seems I've got them full time.

My previous drive (Asus rebranded lite-on, i believe) was failing about 50% of the time. Seems like the OS just "lost" the drive and I'd have to do a restart to get it back. I thought it might have been because it had some "green" feature that was trying to save energy or something.

Got a new drive. LG UH12NS30, and my first to rips failed about half way. I know (from searching) there's a lot of people who are having their optical drives just disappear in Win 7, but I haven't found a solution. I think I'm in that camp.

Any suggestions?

Is this an internal SATA drive? I honestly would blame the cable / connectors.

yes, its internal.
I guess I should change the cable and see if thats it.
I also did some searching and found the Upper/Lower filter fix and tried that.
I did manage to get through 5-6 rips last night without any crashing, so that may have been it.
But higher quality cable isn't a bad idea either.

(btw, I noticed you're the admin. should I have posted this in a different forum? My bad!)
