VC-1 and Roku 3
VC-1 and Roku 3
Super Newb here, so please bear with me. I am ripping blu-rays to a hard drive for playback on my Roku 3. Has been working great until I tried ripping The American. Whenever I tried to play it on the Roku 3 I would get audio but no video. After several different attempts I finally noticed that when MakeMKV reads the disk from my computer's BD drive it says the main movie is in VC-1. Could this be the problem? If so how can I correct this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Re: VC-1 and Roku 3
You would need to use a video encoder, such as Handbrake.
Home Theater PC: Assassin HTPC, XBMCbuntu 12.0 (Frodo), Intel i5 3570k 3.4 GHz Ivy Bridge w/ HD 4000, LG BD-ROM
Playback Devices: Mede8er MED600X3D, MyGica EnjoyTV 120, Xtreamer SideWinder 3, Crystal Acoustics MediaMatchBox

I'm assuming that I will need to rip the movie first via MakeMKV and then recode it using Handbrake?crowfax wrote:You would need to use a video encoder, such as Handbrake.
Re: VC-1 and Roku 3
Correct. I'd use Handbrake on the "High Profile" setting and not fiddle with any settings, the Roku should handle the output just fine.

Re: VC-1 and Roku 3
Handbrake was difficult to get acclimated to, I did end up messing with some of the settings just because I love DTS. It worked perfectly and I reduced the movie size from approximately 20gigs to around 5-6. Thanks so much for your help!crowfax wrote:Correct.
