BR mkv's have PCM instead of DTS-HD MA

Post by computerguru269 » Sun Jun 09, 2013 1:29 am

I've been trying for a couple days without success to backup my BR's to MKV using this software but I cannot seem to get it to keep the DTS-HD, instead it converts it to PCM.

From what I understand MakeMKV is supposed to be able to leave the audio untouched correct so my receiver can decode the DTS-HD itself?

I am using latest version of MakeMKV on my Windows7 (64bit) desktop. I use mpc-hc as my media player and view via HDMI from my ATI HD6850 GPU to my Yammy receiver which passes the video to my Samsung TV.

Any ideas?

Ok, think I figured it out. Messed with the ffdshow settings and got it to somewhat work properly.

Got receiver to play DTS-HD, verified by it saying so on its display for all titles I've checked except one.

When I try to play 2012 mkv file, it plays and shows DTS-HD on receiver display but sound goes in and out every second or two. I'm thinking perhaps it's Cinavia protected or something. Anyone know if Cinavia would cause that problem? I thought it just caused audio to completely stop at some point and NOT as soon as you hit play.

Otherwise, MakeMKV is just messing up the audio for that particular movie for some reason.

hey austingrd

Don't remember exactly what I did to get dtshd-ma working properly, but I used the guide linked to below. My problem WAS NOT due to MakeMKV. Also, in case you didn't know, you need to use an HDMI cable from your computer to your receiver for HD audio. Even toslink or coaxial SPDIF cables won't work as they can only handle 2 channel PCM audio.

Anyway, here is the link to the guide I used.

If you have any questions or need further help, let me know. I'm somewhat new at this myself, but I'll see what I can do.

GOOD LUCK!!!
