Trouble with HD Decoder

I configured the path to dtsdecoderdll.dll per the forums instructions.

The path is looking for DTSHDDec.dll and I also tried pointing to this DLL.

Either way I am met with the following error:

"Copy Complete, 0 titles Saved, 1 Failed."

If I delete the path to the DLL's my MKV will complete normally.

What am I doing wrong?

Basically all I want to do is rip my bluray with HD Audio. Must I select the core (DTS 3/2+1 English) and the HD track (DTS HD Lossless)? By default only the core DTS 3/2 is selected.

You use the decoder to convert the audio to FLAC.

It has nothing to do with ripping.

You can set a profile to select all the streams or certain streams. Check the Advanced MakeMKV Useage section.

No, its only used if you want to convert the audio into other format (flac or lpcm). The general motto of MakeMKV is that it will tell you explicitly if you need any additional component installed/configured (dts decoder dll, or DASPI, or ffmpeg, etc). If it doesn't tell you then it either doesn't need it or found it by itself - and you don't have to do anything.

Still a bit confused though.

If I play my Bluray Disk, my AVR says the audio is HD

If I play my rip, my AVR says the audio is DTS.

Am I still getting the HD track copied with my MKV RIP?

Or Must I convert the audio to something else?

Do I rip BOTH the core DTS 3/2+1 English and the HD lossless? Or just the HD lossless?

I've done that. But when I play them back via PLEX, my AVR says the track is Dolby D. When I play the BR, my AVR says its DTS HD.

If you are using OS X, then OS X has no provisions for HD audio. Currently available Plex(and XBMC) will do what it does and send the HD audio, but your AVR will not indicate HD, but just indicate DD, or DTS. I seem to recall that Plex for Windows7(maybe Vista onwards) does support HD audio as Windows provisions for HD audio. If you switch between the HD and SD audio streams, you can hear a difference.

If you are using TOSLink, and not HDMI, then some people say that TOSLink does not support HD audio at all, but some people say it does. Might depend on your settings in Plex.

Was not aware that Mountain Lion did not do HD Audio.

I guess I will need to install Parallels in order to run Windows 7 and install the Plex medial Server on Windows.

In theory the only difference you'll get is that your AVR will indicate TrueHD, or DTS-HD.

Ah...I believe I am also limited by my Roku 3.

How the heck can I play the HD audio?

I use Plex. As I said, Plex and XBMC will work their magic and play your HD audio, but it won't indicate HD audio on your AVR.

I have PLEX installed on my Mac and on my full windows box. In both cases, only Dolby D is displayed on my AVR. I access PLEX via my Roku 3. So your saying although my AVR says Dolby D, I am actually getting the DTS HD? But I wont get HD audio via Mountain Lion?

However, if I access Plex on my windows machine from my Oppo 103, my AVR does display DTS HD.

Your Roku might be doing something to the audio, as DTS should show as DTS not DD.

Unfortunately, my Oppo 103 stuutters badly when playing then MKV file. I am on wireless, I would guess that I do not have enough bandwith to play the file properly. My router is on the second floor, so I would need to run a cable to my first floor to test properly.

I have been pouring over the Roku menus and can not find any place that would indicate a change in how the Roku processes DTS. However, I am not sure the Roku can pass HD audio. If this is the case, it may be down sampling to Dolby D?
