Star Trek: The Next Generation S1 D6 T18

Post by squid3660 »

Anyone have trouble ripping the bonus feature called "Stardate Revisited, The Origin of Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Continuing Mission, Part Three"?

For me, this is title 18 on Disc 6. After I rip title 18, only 3/4 of the video plays. The file is 32:41 in length, but the video stops at 25:34 and only the audio plays through to the end. You can also tell that MakeMKV has problems ripping the last 1/4 of the file, since it just hangs for about 5 minutes until it completes, but says the rip was good.

I have two copies of this disc (original and re-released corrected set from Paramount) and they both exhibit the same problem when I try to rip title 18. Tried with different BR readers too. No change.

I'd hate to have to order this set for the third time, if there is no actual problem. I haven't tried playing this in an actual BR player yet. Guess I should do that, duh!

I have registered only to say that I am happy that I'm not the only one having this problem :-)
Did squid3660 send you the testdump or can I do it ? I have also problems to rip the special features from the Star Trek TOS Blurays, but I guess I should start a new topic

Just a little update - I found out that when I rip the same disc as a whole disc using the "Backup disc" function, when I check the m2ts file, it plays without problems.

You mean that you can play 00080.m2ts past the 27:37 ? And there is any video beyond that point?

Exact same behavior as described above: v1.8.4, problem with the same video, same timestamp, backed up 00080.m2ts with same playback software works

FYI, I had this problem, too, with the complete series set. Thanks to pittrek's tip, though, I found a way to workaround the issue:
  1. Create a full disc backup of the blu-ray, as pittrek suggested, checking the option to decrypt videos
  2. Navigate to BDMV/STREAM/ in the backed up copy
  3. Find 00080.m2ts - this is the raw file containing the problematic video
  4. Open 00080.m2ts in Handbrake and encode as desired
Just wanted to share the workaround for any other folks having this issue.
