So my MacBook finally died so I am using my wife's laptop (Toshiba Satellite M305D, Windows Vista Home). The external BluRay Player is recognized by Windows but not by MakeMKV.

Is MakeMKV running as administrator (right click, run as administrator)?

I am having this same issue. The only way to fix it for me is to restart windows. It will be recognized for a while but then disappear. I have an internal dvd drive which always appears.
