Choosing Select Sections of Main Movie

Post by ClipClipper »

Hi all. Newbie here - looking forward to learning more about Make MKV. (please forgive me if my question seems especially ignorant)

It seems when one Makes MKV, although one can unclick different subtitles, extra features and sound options that the entire main movie is just a single selectable box. I would love to be able to Make an MKV out of select portions of the main movie.

For instance, maybe I just want the main movie's first scene, or the 1/4 of the film, etc. Is there any way for me to do that so I don't have to sit though the entire film being processed? (About 45 minutes for my first attempt.)

Thanks very much!

Seems like a pretty logical function to have. (Handbreak has chapter selection possible and MPEG Streamclip has a timeline bar you can set In and Out points on - as examples.)

Currently, with MakeMKV, I'm spending almost an hour waiting for a entire movie file that I may only want a single shot from.

No way to select within the main film currently?

If not, does anyone know if it's something that's in the works?

Thanks again! :)

MakeMKV has a "poor man preview". Open the disc, select "stream" icon, open the needed title with VLC and either grab screenshot from there or use "stream" function in VLC.

re: ""Streaming server started, web server address is" etc.... it's got to link up with an online server? And then use VLC simultaneously? Pardon my ignorance, but don't understand this. Also, to clarify, I don't want to grab a screenshot... When I say a "shot" I don't mean a "screen shot", I mean I want to make an MKV of out a sequence from the Blu Ray movie, or a scene or two, maybe a chapter, or a chapter or two, without having to convert the entire main movie.

MakeMKV seems to know how many chapters there are in the main film - isn't there any way for me to make an MKV just out of a select chapter?

Thank you very much!

I think it's safe to say that's a niche request. You could rip it, and then cut what you want with mkvtoolnix.
