Write error - help!

Hi guys, getting this error when copying a blu-ray:

Error 'Posix error - Input/output error' occurred while writing data to '/Volumes/wd3tb/The_Campaign_t00.mkv' at offset '66262215'

I'm writing to a HDD that's shared on my home network. This is going from a mid-2011 MacBook Air to a 802.11n Time Capsule to a HDD connected to another computer that's connected to the Time Capsule via 100mbps ethernet. I've copied blu-rays over the network before, but that was when the HDD was connected directly to the Time Capsule, and not on a different computer merely connected via ethernet to the Time Capsule. Now instead of being connected directly to the TC, the HDD is connected to a computer connected to the TC via ethernet.

Is makeMKV having trouble writing fast enough to the HDD over this new network config?

Most likely you will find that the point where the file stopped writing was when it reached 4GB. There are a lot of configurations where network drives will be treated as if they were formatted with FAT32, and are limited to 4GB, at which point the local operating system will simply refuse to write to them. The Timecapsule probably runs Linux, and thinks the network drive has this limitation.

Fastest test would be to see if the Air can connect directly to the shared hard drive, and copying a larger file to it.

I believe one time was around 4.5GB and the other was about 2GB. The HDD isn't actually connected to the TC anymore - it's on a WD TV Live that's connected to the TC via 100mbps ethernet. The rips actually went fine when the HDD was connected directly to the TC. Maybe this is a limitation on the WD?

Possibly - I know that my Uebo M400 doesn't have the limitation when sharing its internal drive, BUT... it is very slow. But slow should not give the I/O error - There is a special error reserved for that.

Another possibility, again, experience from my Uebo.... it rebooted in the middle of the copy. If it did, the drive would "go away" during the reboot, but appear just fine by the time you noticed the problem and went to investigate.
