VC-1 to H264?
VC-1 to H264?
I am a noob to makemkv but I can still appreciate how good it is. I used it for the second time today with two different ambient BluRays:
Christmas Fireplace
and
Hawaii Beaches
I put the generated mkv files on a usb key and attempted to play them with xbmc. The mkv files from the first BluRay, Christmas Fireplace, played fine with no problems whatsoever. However the second BluRay has proved more difficult. The mkv files would play but, and it's difficult to describe, the visuals were all messed up. Things were bending and swirling like a kind of visualisation special effect. I thought about ripping the BluRay again but another mkv from the disc, which was basically a promo for other discs by the same company, worked fine. I'm wondering if it's some kind of security measure as previously I had the DVD of the same product, Hawaii Beaches, was a little awkward too. I ended up having to use good old DVDDecrypter for that. So is it something I did wrong or some security measure and can it be circumvented please? Sorry for the long winded post but I like to give as much information as possible. Thank you!

Re: Some form of visual security measure?
Sent an email to the creator of Hawaii Beaches and he says he spent $5000 on the protection for it. Seems like bullshit to me but what do I know.

Re: Some form of visual security measure?
I thought about ripping the BluRay again
Take the few minutes to clean the disc and re-rip it ;>}
Re: Some form of visual security measure?
It's brand new mate! The six titles with the good stuff are all distorted and the crappy promo works fine so it can't be a dirty disc!?!? /hurries off to check the disc.
Re: Some form of visual security measure?
Checked the disc and it's cleaner than clean. For the first time I tried loading one of the mkv files into Handbrake and it couldn't process it at all. Is there anything I can do? Is there some alternative to MakeMKV that could defeat the protection? Thanks guys!
Re: Some form of visual security measure?
I notice the codec is VC-1...is this still a problem for MakeMKV? I'm wondering if that's why xbmc can play it or handbrake process it....feeling a little silly about the thread title now.
Re: Some form of visual security measure?
It's not a problem for MakeMKV, it doesn't care what codec is on the disc. It might be a problem for your playback software though.

Has it ever been? I had no problems ripping BDs with VC-1 (other than it's a crappy M$ codec, of course).VanZan wrote:I notice the codec is VC-1...is this still a problem for MakeMKV?
MultiMakeMKV: MakeMKV batch processing (Win)

Re: Some form of visual security measure?
Oh yes sorry folks! A long night spent messing around with rippers when it was a codec problem the whole time. Looks like I'm going to have to transcode this bitch...sigh. I know it's not a MakeMkv question but what do I use? RipBot264?

Re: Some form of visual security measure?
If it's interlaced VC-1, then you would have to use StaxRip, or RipBot. I'm not sure if there are any other applications that handle interlaced VC-1.
If it's just VC-1, then you could use whatever you want.

Re: Some form of visual security measure?
Ok...really embarrassing silly question time....how do I tell if it's interlaced sir? BDInfo? I'd say it is interlaced since Handbrake won't accept the mkv files created by MakeMkv.
Re: Some form of visual security measure?
Found a program called MediaInfo and yes it is Interlaced unfortunately..thanks mate.

Re: VC-1 to H264?
Are you playing this on a pc via XBMC? If so, I wouldn't re-encode it. Just figure out why it isn't playing correctly in XBMC and fix it.
