When I try to open the *.mp4 file created from MakeMKV in QuickTime 10.0, it returns with the error:
The movie “Marvels_the_Avengers8_1.mp4” can’t be opened. You may need to install additional software to open this type of file.
Is that due to some ripping protection or did I incorrectly ripped the DVD?
Thank you,
Brad
Unable open *.mp4 file on QuickTime
Re: Unable open *.mp4 file on QuickTime
MakeMKV does not create MP4 files, ever.
Re: Unable open *.mp4 file on QuickTime
I use Handbrake (free DL) to rip all of my DVDs and now more importantly to convert my .mkv files to .mp4 works awesome.
Re: Unable open *.mp4 file on QuickTime
MakeMKV does not output .mp4 files, it outputs .mkv files. Quicktime cannot play back .mkv files on its own. You can add software to allow Quicktime to play back .mkv files, butI prefer to use VLC or MPlayer to play these files.
I then use Handbrake to convert the .mkv file to a .m4v file, which Quicktime and iTunes can play natively.
