I'm converting my DVDs and BluRays to digital form (mp4) for use on my Nexus 10. I'm using MakeMKV, looking at the resulting MKV package with KMPlayer to make sure it converted OK, then making the conversion to mp4 with HandBrake.
I've converted 50 (mixture of DVDs and BluRay) so far without a hitch. But I've got the same aspect ratio problem on three of them:
1. All three problems are DVD's using 1.78 anamorphic format.
2. When the MKV file is viewed on KMPlayer it displays as 4:3; the horizontal axis is compressed.
3. When I then convert the MKV file to MP4 with HandBrake using the "anamorphic" switch in the "strict" postion, the resulting mp4 file is also 4:3.
4. All three DVDs look normal using a standard TV or if viewed as a DVD on my Blu-Ray drive on my computer.
Any thoughts on how I might fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Ned

Re: 1.78 Anamorphic problems
I think there is another thread about this. It might be an issue with the way that the discs are mastered.
For the Handbrake issue, you could always post the Handbrake log so we can see what is going on, either here, or at the HB forums.

Re: 1.78 Anamorphic problems
How to fix this problem:
Edit the MKV immediately after ripped with MKVMerge's header editor
Edit the Video Display Width / Height to what you need.
