Just downloaded 1.7.8 and it wants me to purchase a key
Just downloaded 1.7.8 and it wants me to purchase a key
But I haven't evaluated the software for even a bit yet. Seems I'm supposed to have 30 days to try this out. I'd like to see it work at least once though first. Can someone help me over this bump? Thanks!
My plan is to rip my Matrix BD box set and see how that goes.

Trial versions are only good till a certain date. Then a new version comes out.
For some reason, you've downloaded an obsolete version. Try downloading the current version, and see if it works. If not, then use the beta key.

No, I downloaded the latest just now 1.7.9 and it still says it's obsolete. I think it's a date problem.
Re: Just downloaded 1.7.9 and it wants me to purchase a key
I'm sorry, I meant 1.7.9 just downloaded tonight. The beta key from your .signature is working for me.
Thank you!
Thank you!

I just experienced the same exact problem, after a few days of use I received an error message stating that the software was too old. I downloaded fresh versions twice, but all had the same error message. I then recalled seeing a key somewhere in the forums, so I registered the software using the temporary key and its now back to working perfectly.
This is the forum post with the temporary key:

See I had that problem too, I went to the download page and downloaded the latest version for windows. Did that just last night. Come back today and it says I need a registration key.

Hey, I was having this same problem, but I looked in the News and Announcements section, and found the Beta Key listed in the 'MakeMKV is free while in beta' forum. Check that out, and you should be able to try the beta out!

Re: Just downloaded 1.7.8 and it wants me to purchase a key
Its because 1.7.9 expired on January 1st 2013 and we didn't release the next version in time. The new version will be out in a few days.
Re: Just downloaded 1.7.8 and it wants me to purchase a key
Yet another reason I'm glad I purchased a license for it.

Well worth $50 in my opinion. Glad I bought a license too.

I am having the same issue using makemkvcon in on Ubuntu Server 12.04. I have purchased a license and do not have the issue on OS X.
Has anyone successfully registered via command line using their activation key?
My issue with the linux version emerged after I attempted to add the registration key. I used the technique noted on the second post on this thread: http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1218
Specifically, I added my registration key to ~/.MakeMKV/settings.conf for root as well as my user in the following format: app_Key = " #activation key here# "
I was using the program without issue yesterday prior to adding the registration to the settings.conf files. I first changed the permissions for both files to 777 but it did not restore functionality. I next replaced it with the current beta key, same error. I then removed the app_Key line altogether but still no luck.
I recognize that this is not the end of the world as I can use the program on my laptop if needed. With that in mind I preferred using the headless box since it keeps my laptop free. I have also contemplated installing a gui temporarily to register but that seems a bit convoluted, particularly if there is no guarantee it will work.
Am I missing a step for registration via cli?
Thanks.
