Can't find any real error message, it just doesn't seem to w

My setup is this:

OSX 10.8.2
MakeMKV 1.7.9
Mac mini (mid 2011)
Plextor Blu-Ray Reader PX-B120U (external USB 2.0)

I am new to copying BluRays, these are my first two attempts. I have been reading other peoples error reports, and then my own MakeMKV logs. However, I cannot seem to find any error messages as such, it just doesn't seem to work...

Any ideas as to what the problem can be? The external BluRay drive is brand new, it came today.
The BluRay discs plays w/o any trouble.

Hm, ok. I am writing to a Buffalo NAS disk (Linkstation) - using SMB networking. I will try to rip directly to the Mac's internal drive instead and see if that works better. Will post back after testing.

This is not really SUPPOSED to happen; the SMB networking can support larger-than-4GB files, but some combinations of software report the file system of the network share as being FAT32, even when it isn't, which limits files to 4GB.

Glad it's working, though. As a test, try copying the files to the NAS with Finder. If it works, the NAS can handle bigger files, but is not reporting that capability to the Mac. If it doesn't, check the NAS for what it uses for a file format on the disk. FAT32 is the most restrictive out there, but most NAS machines will understand NTFS, Ext4, and other higher-performance file systems.

I know the NAS supports larger files than the MakeMKV produced this time, because I already have larger files on it. So I end up ripping to local disk and move the file.

This may not belong in this forum, but I will try anyway.

After I make an MKV, I want to process the file through Handbrake before I import it into iTunes. However, when I run MakeMKV with a BluRay, Handbrake doesn't seem to create a viewable .mp4 (or .m4v) file.

After MakeMKV, the .mkv file plays perfectly in VLC Player, both with a BluRay and a DVD rip.

However, after running the same .mkv files through Handbrake, only the DVD rip gives a viewable .mp4 file.

The .mp4 file from the BluRay rip doesn't playback either via VLC Player or QuickTime, and it doesn't import to iTunes.
The .mp4 file from the DVD rip plays back in VLC player and imports fine to iTunes.

I use all the same standard settings in both MakeMKV and Handbrake for both BluRays and DVDs.

Any suggestions as to how I can solve this?

I have read a couple of "how-tos" (http://lifehacker.com/5559007/the-hassl ... collection and https://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=19939), but it doesn't provide an answer.
