Movie is split between two discs...use MKVmerge GUI?

Post by adrock0211 » Thu Dec 06, 2012 9:35 pm

So I just tried to rip A Time To Kill and for some reason this movie has the first half of the movie on the side A of the DVD and the second half of the movie on side B. I have never seen this before. Is the easiest way to get one movie to create two separate MKV files and then use MKVmerge GUI to combine them? Thanks.

There are some posts here related to The Lord of the Rings movies that discuss this; Take a look at this thread for some hints.

I think so, just add the .mkv for the first half and append the one for the second half. It has worked flawlessly for me so far.

Yup...this is exactly what I did. The first time I just hit "add" on both of the MKVs but that gave me a file size that was the sum of the two parts but when you watched the file it was only the first part...kinda weird actually. Once I "added" part 1 and then "appended" part 2 it worked perfectly. There is about 5 seconds of black at the switch over but for me that is not the end of the world. I'm sure if I played around with the timing I could get rid of that too.

When you add several files (rather than append), all tracks start at timecode 0 (unless you manually add a delay). So your file had 2 video tracks, 2 primary audio tracks, 8 audio commentary tracks, and who knows how many subtitle tracks…
