REQ: zlib compress subs by default
REQ: zlib compress subs by default
Mike, I know you're busy but when do you plan on adding zlib compression to subs when ripping BDs? You said yourself, this would be an easy fix and it would really save lots of time not having to remux an otherwise perfectly good rip, just because WD can't fix their WDTV Live. Thanks.

Re: REQ: zlib compress subs by default
FWIW, I recently got a PopBox V8 (in addition to my existing WD TV Live HD), and noticed the following:
1) the PopBox will happily play uncompressed PGS subtitles, and display all subtitles
2) when playing mkvmerge zlib-compressed PGS subtitles, some subtitles are NOT displayed
The funny thing is, I had already noticed (2) on my WD TV Live HD (with the not displayed subtitles being the exact same as on the PobBox). IMO, it looks like a Sigma bug (not limited to a single chipset, since the PopBox uses a newer chipset than the WD TV Live HD).

Re: REQ: zlib compress subs by default
Weird but not at all suprising given it's Sigma we're talking about
I remember having read on the official WD forum that dropouts were due to the missing end timestamp of the items. Maybe that's the case with your subs too? So far I haven't seen ANY dropouts on zlib-compressed PGS subs.

I joined the forum just so I could +++++++1!!!
Please add this feature! It is only recently that I realized this is the reason why subtitles don't work on my WDlive. Unfortunately, I can't use mkvmerge (have a mac) and even if i could, this would REALLY make my life easier! Please Mr. Mike, HELP!

Re: REQ: zlib compress subs by default
Yes, I can do it, but it adds an extra step that is quite annoying.
Re: REQ: zlib compress subs by default
Finally implemented in 1.7.8!
THANK YOU, MIKE!
Take that, WD

YES!
I don't know how I just noticed this until now.
Very very much appreciated, sir!
You definitely will get my donation (and I hardly ever buy software)
