Pioneer BDR-XD07TB spindle holder fail

#1 Post by zordiack » Sun Oct 25, 2026 9:30 pm

Hello everyone, I own a Pioneer BDR-XD07TB external drive which worked perfectly for long time, but has now unfornately physically failed on me :(

I know this is a long shot, but has anyone been able to replace the plastic spindle assembly in the middle? I have one out of three missing ”claw” in it, and it won’t hold the discs stable anymore.

I have an LG drive as replacement, but it is not as good with reading as this one was, especially with failing ddrescue results.

I have a BDR‑XD08 with a damaged mainboard. The drive is intended for parts.
If you take a photo, I’ll be able to compare whether this part in the BDR‑XD07 looks the same as in the BDR‑XD08.

Hi, here are some photos of the spindle:

I did open the drive already to see if it is possible to exchange the spindle/motor, but the plastic black part is I think glued to the motor itself (the metal round cylinder part). The motor is part of drive assembly board, which has at least one soldered connection which I am not that eager to try to replace, also I could not find the spare part anywhere.

Maybe the only feasible option would be to carefully break the black part away from top and glue a replacement in place. I would be interested in trying to replace the spindle if it fits and paying for the spare.

Edit. I'm having trouble adding pics in the post, so I will add links instead

Hello, I removed the spindle motor from the drive. You can find the photos below. If the markings are similar or identical, then the part will most likely be compatible with the BDR-XD07.

Hi, well the part does look similar, but the part numbers are not identical:

I'm not sure would it work, physically the motor and spindle do look similar.

In my opinion, it's the same unit. The motor has a different serial number, but the main model designation matches.

Ok, well I'm ready to give it a try as my drive is useless at the moment. It's worth trying to salvage it.

How much would you want for the spare part and postage? We can continue in private messages if you are willing to sell and send the spare part.

skyrider, quick one... how did you get the motor off your XD08 without wrecking the spindle part? was it glued on yours too, or did it just pop out once you got the board out? (asking cos zordiack said his looked stuck fast to the motor, so id like to know if its worth the faff)

In the picture, I marked the screws that need to be removed. The three screws that hold the spindle motor in place are additionally secured with adhesive to prevent them from loosening, so they require a precise tool and a reasonable amount of force to remove, but with care and good judgment.

Just to comment, the spare part is with motor and spindle assembly intact and attached to the motor board etc assemly, it has not been broken in any way. I was talking about maybe changing only the black plastic clip part on top of the spindle.

read that wrong, i thought the whole spindle was fused to the motor. so its just the clip on top that's gone, and skyrider's part is a full motor swap (three glued screws, dont forget)... soldered connection still needs sorting either way.
