Do check the Drive F serial number to verify as proof. Alot of things can be achieved very easily with MattJackson's Free Flasher.
Yahoo!!
my XD05 was also flashed to a XD08U with his Flasher..and its got no problems or issues, plus its also LibreEnabled!! Hehehehe!!

You don't want to go flashing drive's willy nilly. They only have a certain amount of flashes. At least the LG one's do anyway. I wouldn't be risking any of my Pioneer drives! Once they have UHD compatible firmware, leave them alone.
Cheers :D

Anyway the link to download his free flasher is attached below.

https://freemkv.org/firmware/flash/

and to download the needed firmwares, the link is attached below.

https://freemkv.org/firmware/find/

remember to "Backup" and also "Dump" your current drives, and save on your desktop for easy access, if you ever need to use it.
and DONT unzip the firmware files.. just use that 1 Zipped file if u want to flash the drive.. that's the only "Glaring difference vs the Regular BDRFlash software where u need to copy/drag 2 files over into the flasher.

Unknown exactly. I only know from my flashing a drive multiple times when I was building and testing the SDFtool Flasher. Eventually, the drive I was using for flashing tests would no longer flash.

I'm sure there is a lot of variability between individual drives but I have flashed one particular BH16NS55 drive around 150 times. It is still going well. I also have a BU40N which I've flashed at least 60 times without fault.

The drives non-volatile storage isn't expected to be entirely static as it must handle very occasional writes in the form of AACS host revocation list updates but this would be less taxing compared to a full firmware flash.

It’s strange that there isn’t a separate big thread for FreeMKV flasher here on the forum.
In my view, FreeMKV is the best solution by functionality

I'd like to know if the firmware versions offered for download directly on the FREEMKV website are actually original/stock firmware versions.

As per the OmniDrive instructions the 1.00 stock firmware for the BU40N is
HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BU40N_1.00.bin with md5 EDB28FCD7A239281ACE26A468D382A9C

FREEMKV offers BU40N_1.00 that has a md5 3f52f08519268f04b8bfcce098085fb6

The decrypted BU40N 1.05 firmware offered by RibShark here:
viewtopic.php?p=204454#p204454
on the other hand is binary identical to the version from the FREEMKV website.

Whould be interesting to know how the 1.05 was extracted/decrypted.
I have the "intermediate" as well as the "replace" firmware extracted from the LG installer BD-RE_BU40N______1.05.zip but of cause the "replace" firmware is encrypted.

They are all OEM, or should be, so if you spot an issue let me know. I have non OEM and they may have slipped in. Ill audit and add a details section so you can see the original filename and hashes too.

Its a community driven site, hence free, so you help me I help you :)

FYI I dont really follow this forum just stumbled upon this thread and wanted to answer direct.

No idea why you got that. You should really got one with MD5 of a642b06124089a89cf92f4cfe928f083 (and SHA256 of 221ad35b7edd402353e125841893ce651064e8fc6b90368fe84ff19a85a506f4), which is apparently the "DE" version:
"DE" firmware
This is an official firmware image with a single byte changed, so this firmware can be flashed over the latest firmware. The changed byte enables firmware downgrade. No other changes are made to firmware image. This is a good option to downgrade a firmware and get back the features that were available in previous versions, when previous firmware versions are available.

Code: Select all

$ sha256sum BU40N_1.00_79e8df06.bin de/BU40N_1.00_221ad35b.bin
79e8df06c776ed40523a5b530d1559e561fbefb71a9e981d301a92b7a6b5c964  BU40N_1.00_79e8df06.bin
221ad35b7edd402353e125841893ce651064e8fc6b90368fe84ff19a85a506f4  de/BU40N_1.00_221ad35b.bin
$ md5sum BU40N_1.00_79e8df06.bin de/BU40N_1.00_221ad35b.bin
edb28fcd7a239281ace26a468d382a9c  BU40N_1.00_79e8df06.bin
a642b06124089a89cf92f4cfe928f083  de/BU40N_1.00_221ad35b.bin
$ cmp -l BU40N_1.00_79e8df06.bin de/BU40N_1.00_221ad35b.bin
2015319 377 336
(0o377 is 0xFF and 0o336 is 0xDE btw.)

P.S. I do NOT know if the actual stock (whatever the "ground" is) was NOT "DE". It's entirely based on the MD5 RibShark provides.
