Blu Ray Audio LPCM Extraction from MKV

#1 Post by Edgeyboy » Wed Oct 14, 2026 4:30 am

I have some ripped MKV files from Blu Ray Audios

I want to extract the stereo high res LPCM tracks to play on my two channel system.

I use a Mac. What's the easiest way to extract the stereo LPCM tracks from the MKV's and save as FLAC or similar?

Thanks Tom

I used to have MakeMKV do the conversion (there's a FLAC profile you can use to make the conversion automatic, from what I recall), but I stopped bothering when I ended up processing everything through handbrake to make it smaller. Handbrake can use LPCM as a source, and output FLAC or other audio types. It hardly costs any time, because the majority of the time is spent processing the video.

Thanks for your advice. I ripped it into FLAC using MKV. Plays fine but no gaps between the tracks unfortunately so more research to do

If each track has it's own chapter you can use MKVToolnix (re-)mux with split on chapter option. Then you have separate Tracks.
But if the original track doesn't have any gaps between the tracks, this method will not add any silence at the start or end. So any player with gapless playback will still play them directly after each other.

You could use audacity or something similar to add a few seconds of silence at the start or end of each track, or find a player that allows to adjust the pause between tracks.

Check out https://losslessextract.com

Not free but it's Mac-based, very easy to use and totally worth it. Great support, too. Will let you extract from MKV files as, FLAC, ALAC, M4A, or WAV.
