Firmware dump & Flashing of an LG BH16NS55

Converting this comment into a post for discoverability, will only give a TLDR here

I got this drive a while ago and it works fine at 6x speed for 1080p.

The NixOS version of MakeMK "makemkvcon f" did not give any output (text, logs, anything), the windows version gave me a user dump but refused to give me a full dump with error message

Code: Select all

Error: full dump is disabled in this firmware version
DEBUG: Code 4279205893 at xZ.-xCs_\J9DIbU=f*hi}nH>ad6F+b$,:29395034

Command produced error code 0xff0f8005
I was not able to find info on this code. Do I need to downgrade, is this known? I wouldnt wanna brick my drive without a backup possible.

Once it has libredrive firmware, will reflashing be easier?

Thanks!

There are other tools that may or may not support dumping of that but it's not needed.

Just follow the guide below for wh16ns60

Or email me or Marty for an automated flasher see email below

Thanks! What are tools that could work here?

Also, can I flash a custom or stock firmware if the flashing fails?

I have flashed the BIOS of laptops and chromebooks before but this is a bit different. In the worst case I guess I would open up the drive and get a flash programmer to dump the firmware? And potentially use that to flash it too?

Also, is there documentation on how the "Libredrive" firmware is patched? It might be nice to patch the extracted firmware myself to exactly fit my drive and also not need to rely on random DDL blobs from the internet
