On-the-fly conversion to FLAC supports 24-bit data?

Post by paulster »

Now that MakeMKV supports on-the-fly conversion to FLAC format, amongst others, does it retain the full 24-bit resolution from a 24-bit LPCM source? From what I've read before FFmpeg is limited to 16-bit audio, although it's not a tool I generally use so I could well be wrong.

Unfortunately just 16 bit for now, because of the ffmpeg limitation, as you stated. The creator of MakeMKV confirms this at the bottom of his post here:

Code: Select all

But is sounds like its just a temporary limitation, so hopefully soon we will get 24 bit support when this issue is fixed in ffmpeg.

Well, since spam bumped this post back to the top, now might be a good time for me to ask:

Does anyone know when 24-bit flac support will be coming to MakeMKV? I understand that depends entirely on ffmpeg, but are there any estimated release dates anyone knows of for 24-bit flac support there?

Thanks!
