Just bought an LG BE16NU50

So today I came across an LG BE16NU50 on the used market for €30, so I decided to pick it up. I’m going to try all the LibreDrive stuff for the first time, and I was wondering:

Is the BE16NU50 a good drive for LibreDrive? And is it generally considered reliable?

I wanted an external drive that was also fast at reading discs. I also wanted to be able to play PS3 games with it, and this was one of the only drives I found that supported LibreDrive and was compatible with RPCS3, while not being a slim drive.

Are there any better external drives that would fit those requirements?

yeah only lg for now can do ps3 stuff
but i would not try the direct play from the disc i know they just added support for that but your not going to save much space
already back in that gen they were doing hdd installs to improve load times so your going to had big install files for most games anyway
i recommend ripping them

Yeah, but most games asked you to install the game data to the HDD because the drive was pretty slow. I think it was only reading at 2x.

From what I've read, the LG can read at up to 16x, so I shouldn't need to install the game data anymore. I mainly want this because I have 100+ PS3 disc games lol.

16x is not for bluray

you will be lucky to get 8x

the games dont know if your drive is reading at 2x or 16x they are programed to do a hdd install they are going to do a hdd install
i use rpcs3 too as both my ps3's have died...
even with ripping the game i have to do the install and it just doubles the data taking up more space than needed but there is not an easy way around it i saw something about converting disc based backups in to download based ones but i didnt look into it as for now i have enough space and have most my games on pc only the old ps3 exclusives i go to rpcs3 for

i do like the motor storm series pacific rift is my fav
