WP50NB40 scratching discs

I've got this WP50NB40 been using it for a couple years. Every so often I'd get a new disc and try to rip it but it would fail. I'd take the disc out, it'd have uniform circular scratches on it. I blamed Amazon every time and returned them lol

BUT after years of this happening randomly I finally verified that it is the burner scratching an occasional disc over and over until it's unusable.

This is horrific to me. Just thought I'd share this here, cuz no where in the list of drives does it say "may damage discs" lol...

Need an internal drive but can't find an affordable one on amazon. Out of options.

And I may as well further explain the etchings; they're hairline circular scratches which come and go around the disc. How did I find it was failing? I was ripping a "CD" to itunes actually and the cd was mint. I put it in and it started to spin but, it sounded a little wonky. I knew what it had done before I even took out the disc. Because this happens randomly all the time to me whether it be UHD or bluray or music discs.

I took the disc out and it was scratched beyond readability. Had to throw it away.

B&h has the buffalo 5.25 for an ok price
Pioneer would be best but they go for $2000+


But yes sadly when LG slim drives have low power or have dirty discs they are a lot more likely to do this

Not to rush you but that's one of if not the last manufactured batches get it soon as you can

Also external LG slim drives are more likely to "move around" on your desk (and thus have a much higher chance of scratching the disc) when the disc is spinning at full speed than external Pioneer slim drives, unless you place the drives on something like a giant mousepad (which is what I always do now).
