BP50NB40 flashed to BP60NB10, now can't flash to BU40N

Post by jrico2 »

My issue is the same or very similar to this one from a few years ago:

I have an LG BP50NB40, SVC CODE NB50, but flashed it to BP60NB10 using instructions in this forum in January. I’m now trying to move it to BU40N so I can ultimately use OmniDrive. SDFtool Flasher completes every WRITE/RECOVER operation successfully, but after power cycling the drive still shows as BP60NB10 in MakeMKV. I've tried several combos from piecing together querstions and responses in the very long forum thread but in every case the firmware stays BP60NB10 even though the flasher shows success.

I've tried:
- RECOVER using BP60NB10 1.00 MK HBD as current firmware → BU40N 1.00
- WRITE BP50NB40-NB50 1.01 MK HBD
- WRITE BP50NB40-NB50 1.03 MK

Again, every operation reports success, but the firmware never changes.

Using sdftool directly (sdftool -d D: --info), I see: mtk:19:59:BUP3:HL-DT-ST:BD-RE BP60NB10 1.00:NM00200:-

Am I stuck on this firmware? Or can someone hopefully share the right combo of operations + firmware versions to use so I can get this to BU40N for omnidrive?

The HBD firmware I made years ago is likely the culprit. There's really no need to use that firmware version any more. Since you tried using RECOVER with it, I assume that is what firmware version is currently on the drive? If so, I suggest you try to WRITE DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.02-MK first, then do the RECOVER using DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.02-MK as the current firmware in the popup firmware selection box and then choose DE_LG_BU40N_1.00 in the main firmware selection drop down box.
Cheers :D

Do a RECOVER with any non-HBD BP60NB10 firmware and write the BU40N firmware. The HBD firmware has a different boot string at 0x3000 than the one it actually checks for, so using RECOVER on that will fail.

Hey,

Thanks so much for the replies. As Billy mentioned, we chatted via email and ended up solving with an autoflasher before these responses came through. It does seem to have been related to a full bootloader flash with HBD, though I'm out of my league here, so not sure whether I've understood everything.

I really appreciate all the help and it's good to have more info here for anyone who might come across this issue in the future.
