MPV much easier than VLC for Blu-Ray playback

My first post here: Forgive me if this information is already well-known to the forum community but I wish to share my experience.

After spending several hours troubleshooting, I discovered that for MxlLinux (Debian), it's a lot easier to install MPV than to configure VLC for Blu-Ray playback. Perhaps it was related to my configuration but I had unwatchable video artifacts using VLC. After a lot of tweaking of the VLC input/codecs options, I gave up and installed MPV player. The difference was stunning. MPV plays the disc perfectly, even when skipping ahead in the video.

I meant to add that MakeMKV works perfectly for me. Already ripped several 3D Blu-Rays.

On my Mac I use MPV all the time. I rarely use VLC.

This does happen sometimes, particularly when using older versions of VLC (as can be the case when using the official Debian repositories).

MPV is great. However, I will also point out that for those few discs where having Blu-ray menus is a huge advantage (such as Blu-rays of series that happen to have lots of episodes on the same disc, or Blu-rays with lots of bonus features), I generally prefer using Kodi. I use an Arch distrobox for this, to make sure I can have the latest version of Kodi.

Good point. I can't watch 3D Blu-rays on the computer using MPV so I use Kodi/CoreElec, which plays them perfectly to my 3D projector. If I want the special features, I rip them separately.
