Hi Forum, sircable wrote: Sun Aug 16, 2026 8:12 am Hi Team,
I bought a new Verbatim 43888 from eBay.
I just unboxed it and see the below details.
What do I need to do here to rip 4k discs?
Thinking of keeping this as a spare after getting one from MartyMcnuts a couple of weeks ago.
Did I get lucky or unlucky here?
It sees a 4k disc (Escape From New York) but won't rip it.

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2026
I just bought a brand new BU40N (mfd May 2026) that came with 1.05, presumably encrypted.
I reviewed the instructions in the first post many times, intending to follow the explicit instruction "BU40N on any Firmware directly to > BU40N 1.03MK". However, I was getting stuck not being able to find the 1.03 MK file for this drive. I couldn't find it in the MK set I had saved: mk-firmware-pack-20190319 or The all you need firmware pack which is linked in the first post.
Eventually I found a copy in Marty's collection All You Need Firmware Pack (MartyMcNuts). But it turns out the correct file was in The all you need firmware pack all along, it just has a different name:
HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin in The all you need firmware pack is the same as the DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK.bin in the All You Need Firmware Pack (MartyMcNuts).

I would suggest either updating the filename in The all you need firmware pack or adding a filename instruction in the post to avoid this confusion.

Between all the various warnings about bricking a drive by using the wrong firmware, I spent a lot of time trying to find "BU40N 1.03MK" using the links and resources in the guide but was unsuccessful in finding a file so labeled.
