I just found that they are still selling the older flash-able bu40ns on amazon with the usb 3 micro b port and it was cheaper then their usb c version. Just grabbed 2 and both were bu40n revision u100 for firmware.

Big thanks to OP for this, when my older drive started having issues I picked one of these up. The one I ordered on July 23rd was indeed flashable. I ordered another to serve as a backup when that older drive could no longer play discs properly.
UNFORTUNATELY, that second drive I ordered on August 13th was one of the new ones. After Marty's flasher GUI tool crashed when selecting the drive, I confirmed my suspicion via the hardware ID thing in device manager mentioned in the OP of that thread.
I was able to transplant it to an older enclosure, flash it, and swap it back, but that's a lot more effort, and not everyone has one of those on-hand. Registered here to mention this, so no one else gets taken by surprise. And, again, tyvm blind-s33r, because that listing was a good tip when you posted it and for a few months after.
