So, in your Disc Info comment, can you add the steps so people know what to do?

1. Backup to folder (leave decrypt unchecked)
2. Delete the AACS directory
3. Open index.bdmv in MakeMKV
4. Create MKV file.

Copy that. So handling the return code from FindVUK could still work, but I get it if you don't want to add it for this edge case.
MartyMcNuts wrote: Wed Aug 12, 2026 4:31 am 1. Backup to folder
Backup to folder (with decrypt unchecked). That's important, or you'll be buggered right back in the same spot failing to decrypt the disc.

Explaining the workaround would save / would have saved us poor souls countless hours, but I would understand if he's reluctant to add output about another specific app (MakeMKV).

Since it's a known issue, do we know why this hasn't been prioritized to get fixed in MakeMKV (other than 'all features are unimplemented by default')?

No. :P (You'll see why shortly)

KeyDB Assistant v1.1.0.1 Released — New MakeMKV Folder Backup & Settings
This update adds a MakeMKV folder Backup feature and a related settings option.
What's new:
• New Backup button on the main toolbar.
• Creates a full folder backup of the inserted disc using makemkvcon64 backup.
• If a matching key exists in your KeyDB, it creates a decrypted_<DiscTitle> backup.
• If no key is found, it creates an encrypted_<DiscTitle> backup.
• Special handling for discs with a bogus AACS folder where the content is not actually encrypted: the backup is run in MakeMKV's encrypted mode to avoid corruption/failure, the output is labeled decrypted_<DiscTitle>, and the AACS directory is automatically removed afterward.
• Backup Folder Location setting added to the Settings dialog.
• Disc Info now detects non-encrypted discs and recommends using the Backup button; it also notes that the resulting folder backup can be opened directly in MakeMKV.
• Live MakeMKV output is displayed in the status window during backup.
• If a backup folder with the same name already exists, you are prompted to overwrite it.

Please provide a new link or better open a new thread that is separate from UHD FAQ. Sending people there would be much easier.

Thanks! It still needs a search to point users to it. A new thread "KeyDB_Assistant (with underline) would it make much easier to find. Note the underline. The search function in this forum doesn't like short key words to look for.

Nice work on the update, those are some really neat inclusions.

I've experienced the short key word issue when searching for specific disc ID values. But I'm seeing the same results when searching for "KeyDB_Assistant" as I do when searching for "KeyDB Assistant". The search result page seems to indicate the effective query is the same:
Searched query: +KeyDB +Assistant
Public KeyDB Disc Submissions
  • Please use file hosts, not forum attachments
  • You must include the MKB_RO.inf file from the AACS folder on your disc
  • Place the extracted keydb.cfg file in the same directory as your disc dump files

Thanks, yea I thought they might prove useful. Given that my work is mostly a front end for findvuk and makemkv, scripting the backup call to makemkvcon wasn't a huge lift. The logic around dealing with unencrypted discs with bogus AACS directories was the real work behind it. But then using the decrypt backup option when you have a key in the keydb for a title was also nice to have IMO.

Hi everyone,

I am a new user and I am looking for the custom flashing tool and firmware to cross-flash my Pioneer drive so I can rip 4K UHD discs.

Since my account is brand new, I cannot send private messages or start a new topic yet. Could an expert or seller (like Billycar11) contact me privately once my PMs are unlocked?

Here is my drive info:
- Drive platform: RS8F00
- Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-212T
- Firmware version: E115/ID71

Thank you so much for your help!

Here's some example output I got during the disc backup process:

Code: Select all

=======================================================
  DISC BACKUP
=======================================================
Validation Data : xxx
Media Key : xxx
VUK : xxx
Unit Key 1 : xxx
Unit Key validation failed with 3 aligned units

-------------------------------------------------------
NOTICE: Disc structure detected as not encrypted
MakeMKV encrypted backup will be used and the AACS directory will be removed afterward.
Backup mode: decrypted
Output folder: D:\decrypted_Stranger Things_ Season 4 Disc 3
MakeMKV v1.18.3 win(x64-release) started
Using LibreDrive mode (v06.3 id=xxx)
Backing up disc into folder "file://D:\decrypted_Stranger Things_ Season 4 Disc 3"
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
Backup done
Backup done.
Removed AACS directory from backup
Backup completed: D:\decrypted_Stranger Things_ Season 4 Disc 3
This is a nice addition, thanks. Some feedback:

Seeing "MakeMKV encrypted backup will be used" followed by "Backup mode: decrypted" makes it look like it isn't working as intended. I'm guessing the "backup mode" is about whether the key was found in the local KeyDB, and not this special case, but I wonder if it's possible to make the message clearer in this case?

Is there anyway to see more progress output from makemkvcon or there's simply no option to get more from stdout/stderr?

Not knowing what's going on, I may want to give up after some time. Any thoughts on having a Cancel button, which IIRC, could also be a useful thing for the other app functions as well?

I assume the file:// URL comes from the makemkvcon output, but the functionality that highlights the URL as a clickable link seems to expect a valid URL (e.g.,"%20" instead of spaces). I don't know if the code is tweakable to look for the closing quote, but the link is broken when spaces are included in the path.

I have zero control over what makemkvcon outputs, so, no none of that is going to change.
