My understanding of Omnidrive firmware is that it does *not* change the firmware version. If your drive already had 1.02 & was patched/flashed before you received it, after flashing Omnidrive you will not see the firmware version change - Omnidrive firmware is a modified version of 1.02.

Omnidrive is based on BU40N 1.00, no matter what the Omnidrive version is. If the firmware version is 1.02, I find it highly unlikely that this drive could have been flashed to Omnidrive (Omnidrive did change my firmware version when I flashed it on my BP55EB40s, for example).

To clarify, if your drive already has the BU40N 1.00 firmware, flashing to Omnidrive will indeed leave the firmware version unchanged even if the flash succeeds, which may have been the source of the confusion. My apologies if this was unclear.

Several years ago I bought an ASUS BC-12D2HT but never got around to using it. I just pulled it out of it's packaging and set it up in my PC. I've been searching and browsing for definitive instructions on what I should do about flashing the firmware for UHD ripping. After much confusion I figured I'd try to rip a 4k Blu Ray, just to see what happens. I put in Jurassic Park and opened MakeMKV. It was able to read and rip the disc, no firmware flashing necessary. It's on firmware rev 3.0. Should I still flash the firmware, and if so, which one should I use? Is this a pre-encrypted firmware?

Hello I just bought an ASUS BW16D1X-U and it will not read 4K Blu Ray disks, the drive platform is RS8601. I have read several posts on this form and from what I have read it is possible to flash the drive but it requires a special flasher. Any assistance would be very welcome.
