Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a Verbatim 66718 external slim drive.
In MakeMKV, the drive is identified as Manufacturer: Verbatim and Product: 66718 (Revision 1.00). The internal SATA-to-USB bridge is hiding the actual drive model and blocking vendor commands.
I am not sure whether the internal drive inside this specific enclosure is an LG, ASUS, or another OEM drive. I would like to flash friendly firmware / LibreDrive onto it using SDFtool Flasher, but the utility cannot recognize or flash the drive over the stock Verbatim USB bridge.
Since I cannot easily leave my main PC case open for a direct SATA connection, I would appreciate your advice on:
Is there a way to identify the exact internal drive model (LG, ASUS, etc.) while it is still inside the Verbatim enclosure?
Is there a known USB bridge chipset / enclosure (e.g., ASMedia) that allows pass-through flashing for this drive over USB?
If I extract the slim drive and connect it via a Slimline SATA to SATA adapter on another PC just to flash it, will it continue to work properly once reassembled back into the original Verbatim enclosure?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Do the last of your ideas. It will work when you put it back.salamdiab wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2026 7:01 pm Hi everyone,

Re: Verbatim 66718
Hi everyone,
Following up on my previous post regarding the Verbatim 66718 external slim drive:
I connected the internal drive to a different enclosure to bypass the stock USB bridge, and MakeMKV successfully retrieved the actual hardware information:
Drive Information
OS device name: E:
Manufacturer: MATSHITA
Product: BD-MLT UJ273
Revision: 1.00
Serial number: WQ52 0019133CEWA001913273ABSX1
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 82
It turns out the internal drive is actually a Panasonic / Matshita UJ273 slim drive.
Could you please advise on the following:
Is there any LibreDrive or friendly firmware support for this specific Matshita UJ273 drive?
Can this drive be flashed for 4K UHD playback/ripping using SDFtool Flasher, or is it limited strictly to standard Blu-ray / BDXL capabilities?
Thanks for your help and insight!
