Hi there,
After my previous BU40N flashed years ago died during the heatwave, I bought another one and am trying to flash it.
I'm on MacOS, using terminal and following the instructions from this post : viewtopic.php?t=19634
MakeMKV when launched displays this information :
Drive Information
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.05
Serial number: MOBQ3AI2134
Firmware date: 2124-04-23 13:47
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 81
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
No disc inserted
After copying the SDF.BIN and the firmware file to /tmp I run the flash command and gets this in return :
./makemkvcon f -d '/IOBDServices/CCAE52B9' -f /tmp/sdf.bin rawflash main -i '/tmp/DE_LG BU40N_1.00.bin'
Reading input file /tmp/DE_LG BU40N_1.00.bin
Flashing flags = 0x0 : 0 0 0 0 : ---- ---- ---- ----
Current Drive ID: HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BU40N_1.05_212404231347_MOBQ3AI2134
Ready to write drive flash memory.
Type "yes" to continue, "no" to abort
yes
Operation started: Sending flash image to drive
100% Operation finished
Operation started: Programming flash
100% Operation finished
Done successfully
Yet relaunching MakeMKV doesn't show any difference.
I have tried with MakeMKV 1.17.7 and 1.18.3, and with both firmwares HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934 and DE_LG BU40N_1.00.bin, with the same result each time.
The drive still mounts a dvd.
There has to be something I do wrong but I can't find it.
Any help from you guys would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

You need 2 flashes as this has encrypted firmware.Theozefrench wrote: Wed Aug 05, 2026 10:07 am Hi there,

First flash should be to HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934 using rawflash enc.
Second flash should be to DE_LG BU40N_1.00 using rawflash main.
Cheers
