SDF error recovering BU40N DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin

Post by hippygold42 » Sun Aug 02, 2026 7:09 am

New Verbatim BU40N drive which was flashed to 1.03 using SDF 1.3.6
When I try to recover the drive to 1.0 I get 'command produced error code 0x82062900'
The drive no longer recognises discs.

MakeMKV shows:

Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.00

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Hi,

I have several questions.

First, out of curiosity, what was your drive's *original* firmware before the very first flash ? BU40N 1.05 maybe ?

Second, normally a flash either succeeds or it doesn't (yes, even in spite of the error code). It looks like the RECOVER to BU40N 1.00 succeeded despite the error code. Just to make sure, what was the *first* firmware you selected for RECOVER ? DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK.bin, right ? And the second was DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin ? Did the drive stop working after flashing to 1.03, or after you used RECOVER to 1.00 ? (which shouldn't have been needed, really, "pure" BU40Ns usually only need a regular WRITE)

Third, by "no longer recognizes discs", you mean *any* disc, right ? Be it DVD, BD, or UHD ? Like, if you insert a disc and try launching MakeMKV, it spins for a few seconds and says "no disc" ? Something like that ?

In that case, could you please try this ?

Do this twice if needed and let us know how it goes. I may have a bad feeling about this if this doesn't work, sadly. :(

Why did we recover in the first place you could direct flash to 1.00 from 1.03mk

Hi and thanks for taking the time to reply.

The original firmware was 1.05
I flashed 1.03MK and recovered the same
Repeated for 1.0

The drive will read and play older DVDs but not 4K UHD

I will repeat the unplug and reboot and see how it goes. I was prepared for the drive to be bricked anyway so no tears my end but possibly some lessons learnt!

Thanks

I have never seen this before - or rather, not due to a firmware flash, and so will leave any further advice to more experienced people. Normally when your drive is truly bricked, I believe it shouldn't even be able to read DVDs.

DVDs and blu-rays (including 4K UHDs) use different wavelength lasers. Most optical drives have two different lasers because of this. It is possible only the 'red' laser for DVDs (and probably CDs) works while the 'blue' laser for blu-rays and 4K UHDs is damaged (or maybe just dirty).

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've ripped uhd disc successfully using 1.0. I was confused about not being able to play directly using vlc but can see that there are several reasons why that might not work. The mkv plays fine as far as I can tell.

Thanks again.

You have to integrate VLC with MakeMKV for direct play.
