Did you try the backup method first and then rip from the backup? That seems to be working for some folks.

The backup then rip trick worked for me for disk 2, but disk 1 gives me an error message that it can't decrypt (The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted) when trying to backup. I see some other are having issues with disc one as well.

1. Use MakeMKV to backup the disc Decrypted
2. Use ffmpeg, dovi_tool, and mkvmerge to create a MKV with DoVi information intact.
Thank you! This worked for me!

Both with and without Decrypt on. I only tried disc 1, did not work either way, still stalls at exactly same place as ripping disc, 654MB

Edit: Just tried Disc 2, same.

Also noticed the main makemkv.com site is unavailable (haven't been here in a while). Is this an orphaned product now?

I was able to get this one correctly going using a disc-folder backup and then putting an mpls file from that backup into MKVToolnix. You can use any of the mpls files from the backup, as MKVToolnix will helpfully offer to scan all of them and then show you what options are available. Choose the biggest one. You can then do the same thing with disc 2, and when you drag the .mpls file from there and choose append it will be smart enough to just append the right compatible playlist. Then just tell it to start multiplexing and you'll wind up with a usable copy with both halves merged into one file!

My issue was not the completely same as the original poster. I was also having issues with decryption of disc 1.
I was able to get both discs ripped using a three-step process.

1.) I enabled keydb.cfg using this helpful post. viewtopic.php?p=162444#p162444
2.) I backed upped up each disc with decrypt checked.
3.) I ripped from the backup. File->Open Files then load the index.bdmv in the BDMV folder in the backup. Rip as usual.

Hope this helps anybody having the same issue.

This seems to have worked for me on Disc 1, was able to view the .mkv afterwards and it retained Dolby Vision. I only watched the first few minutes but no issues. Will watch the whole thing this weekend to verify. Working on Disc 2 now.

This works! I was skeptical because it did stop at 640Mb on the backup copy, but after about 2 minutes it shot up and im already half-way through this UHD BD after about 8 minutes with 10 remaining.

Seems to have been my problem here too...it stopped and seemed to stall at same spot. But after a few minutes it went through to complete backup. Both discs complete. Thanks!

Just noticed that at the end of the intermission, it goes into pause. When restarting, it jumps to almost the end of second disc, about 3:45. Does it every time

Just tested mine and it went seamlessly from intermission to chapter 6. How did you combine disc 1 and disc 2? I used MKVToolnix to append disc 2 to disc 1.

just a PSA doing the backup trick, destroyed my LG WH14NS40 drive. it ran for like 5 minutes seeking constantly , then stopped reading
blurays outright. tried flashing the firmware thinking that it was a software issue. but it looks look the diode was burned out.

I ended up using CloneBD to create an MKV from the two UHD BD ISO files I made with Xreveal.

ConeBD had zero issues creating the MKV from each disc. No speed issues. This is one of the rare times I have needed to use CloneBD over MakeMKV.

Doesn't that mean you've lost the Dolby Vision FEL layer, however?
