Re: Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair UHD rip not progressing
Great news to hear some have succeeded. Mine hung for over 10 mins trying 2 different drives. Gotta try this other process - can anyone explain end to end what to do? Sorry yall still figuring this stuff out haha.

Only issue I see, is the disc is showing 73.2 GB, however the rip is showing 69.22 GB. Don't know why the difference.
Going to do disc two next.
Sure... when you do the backup, there is a dialog box that opens up, there is a check mark in the "decrypt" box, uncheck it. Then do the backup. Once the backup is complete, use the File-->Open Files. Then point it to the folder with the disc image, and go the normal route of ripping a disc.
I have the files saved to an SSD, and then ripped to the same SSD drive, hence the message I received. For the second disc, I saved to SSD #1 and ripped it to SSD #2. No issues. And boy is it quick.

Can you confirm the size of the rips?JoshBurg17 wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 2:20 am Both finally worked. I backed up - then made mkv from the backup. Both still got "hung" early on for the AV sync issues but then it just brute forced it's way past after a minute or two and completed. Just wanted to update folks that it was successful for me doing this method.
Disc 1 = 69.22 GB file showed 73.2 GB
Disc 2 = 86 GB file showed 91.0 GB

I didn't do every audio track but mine looks similar, they were 70-some and 90-some in MakeMKV but the video file were smaller after dumpingrhett7660 wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 3:46 am Can you confirm the size of the rips?
Disc 1 = 69.22 GB file showed 73.2 GB
Disc 2 = 86 GB file showed 91.0 GB
Disc 1 - 63.1 GiB (67,764,270,369)
Disc 2 - 78.4 GiB (84,181,143,085)
Re: Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair UHD rip not progressing
I'm having trouble with disc one. It gets stuck at that same 650ish mark everyone else mentions on a regular rip, the full disc backup fails with "decrypt video files" unchecked, I've even tried some other software that usually works where makemkv fails, but it gets stuck too. I've cleaned the disc and tried across my three drives (an LG, and ASUS, and a Pioneer) dozens of times at this point and it always fails at the same exact spot. A/V sync issues and then it won't progress. Disc 2 had this issue but I was able to get a successful backup and then "rip" that. Any Suggestions?

I already merged them into a single movie file but they’re likely the same. My total file is 144.5 GiB - which is what you’re reporting.
Disc 1 = 69.22 GB file showed 73.2 GB
Disc 2 = 86 GB file showed 91.0 GB
Re: Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair UHD rip not progressing
I was able to backup directly from the disc using MakeMKV. If you notice, the output file size pauses at 1m31s, however you can see the Read rate slowly increase, then decrease, then increase, as it continues to scan all 3 UHD layers of the disc. After an hour when the scan is done, then you will see the Output size start to increase again with complaints about time codes. Disc 1 took about 4 hours and Disc 2 took about 5 hours.
However, there is a problem. While the resulting mkv files play fine, and UHD10 data is intact, the DoVi data stops at 1m31s in both discs (right when the freeze happens and MakeMKV starts scanning the disc while not outputting anything).
I'd be curious if someone using xreveal can check the DoVi content of their first disc:
Extract RPU 7:
ffmpeg -loglevel warning -err_detect ignore_err -i "Kill Bill- The Whole Bloody Affair (2011){P1 00001[tmdbid-414419]}.mkv" -c:v copy -progress pipe:2 -bsf:v hevc_mp4toannexb -f hevc - | dovi_tool extract-rpu - -o rpu7.bin
Get RPU frame count:
dovi_tool info -i rpu7.bin -f 162169
My results for disc 1:
Parsing RPU file...
Error: info: invalid frame number (out of range)
Number of valid RPUs parsed: 2298
There should be 162170 instead of 2298 (1m 31s at 23.976fps)

Forum user chalaheadchala observed a similar 2298 frame RPU issue on the discs Ginger Snaps and Leprechaun: Linknullunit wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 3:05 pm My results for disc 1:

It might be worth trying v1.18.[0-3] to determine if this is a regression in MakeMKV or an authoring quirk of certain newer releases that might benefit from a MakeMKV update.
Edit: I think all three 2298 frame RPU discs are Lionsgate releases. Might not be a coincidence.

- You must include the MKB_RO.inf file from the AACS folder on your disc
- Place the extracted keydb.cfg file in the same directory as your disc dump files

I tried two 1.18.3 commits and one 1.18.2 commit, with the same resulting behavior (flathub doesn't go back any further)
1.18.3 commit 440c72cedbabd4a2c3948c94671bc708b7a5cbc8c55e8ce914b8278d2e2c38de

Hopefully a MakeMKV update can address these Lionsgate 2298 frame RPU discs.

Re: Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair UHD rip not progressing
Neither one of my UHDs will rip, Disc 1 stops @ 654.1MB, Disc 2 @ 937.5MB. Read through some of this thread, see no resolution. Did I miss it?
Re: Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair UHD rip not progressing
There is an issue when MakeMKV tries to interleave the BL and EL hevc streams for these "Lionsgate 2298 frame RPU" discs. With info from chalaheadchala's posts, I am using this work around for the time being:
1. Use MakeMKV to backup the disc Decrypted
2. Use ffmpeg, dovi_tool, and mkvmerge to create a MKV with DoVi information intact.
For example for disc 1:
get chapters from 00001.mpls
get BL and EL hevc, audio, and subtitle streams from 00000.m2ts
interleave the BL and EL hevc streams into one video hevc stream
create mkv for Disc 1
The issue might be related to this warning I get from ffprobe at the 1m31s mark:
MakeMKV could be getting tripped up by this during the BL and EL interleaving.
1. Use MakeMKV to backup the disc Decrypted
2. Use ffmpeg, dovi_tool, and mkvmerge to create a MKV with DoVi information intact.
For example for disc 1:
get chapters from 00001.mpls
Code: Select all
mkvmerge -A -D -S Videos/backup/THE_WHOLE_BLOODY_AFFAIR_UHD_D1/BDMV/PLAYLIST/00001.mpls -o chapters.mkvCode: Select all
ffmpeg -i Videos/backup/THE_WHOLE_BLOODY_AFFAIR_UHD_D1/BDMV/STREAM/00000.m2ts -map 0:v:0 -c:v copy -bsf:v hevc_mp4toannexb -f hevc BL.hevc -map 0:v:1 -c:v copy -bsf:v hevc_mp4toannexb -f hevc EL.hevc -map 0:a -c:a copy audio.mkv -map 0:s -c:s copy sub.mkvCode: Select all
dovi_tool mux --bl BL.hevc --el EL.hevc -o video.hevcCode: Select all
mkvmerge -o Disc1.mkv chapters.mkv video.hevc audio.mkv sub.mkvCode: Select all

The Backup toolbar button is enabled after you insert a disc but before you click the large drive button.THe Backup" option is greyed out on mine. Is there some magic to enable this? THanks.

Thanks - this process worked for me. Re: Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair UHD rip not progressing
This process worked for disc two but not disc one. I keep getting the "The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted" message. Even after backing up the disc to the drive.
Anyone else experiencing this?
