Thank you for any help
Ripping all of the episodes with only the 5.1 or 7.1 audio (no stereo tracks) and subtitles, this is what I have:

Season 1 = 225 GB
Season 2 = 251 GB
Season 3 = 249 GB
Season 4 = 415 GB
Season 5 = 328 GB
All Extras (minus image galleries) = 103 GB

1.53 TB total in file explorer

S5D2 and S4D3 had the same issue.

Did the backup trick and all is good.

Also S5D2. Backup w/o decrypting, delete AACS folder. Load file from hard drive.

Glad I found this. I'm actually ripping the US release, but it seems its the same. I started with Season 5 (since I've seen the other seasons, so wanted to get this one going first), and S5D2 was driving me crazy. I would never have thought to try it without decrypting (I did try backing up, but did not occur to me to untick decrypt!). It appears to be backing up now, so fingers crossed I'll be able to get working files out of it when its done! Will keep this in mind for the other problematic discs mentioned here too!

My trouble is with S04 Disc 3 it won't rip to an MKV with the same cannot decrypt problem others have mentioned.

If I backup without decryption can I then convert it to an MKV from there?

Can anyone confirm if the foreign subtitles for Seasons 3, 4 and 5 are hardcoded or separate?

Hey

What are you Guys using to back up the trouble discs? as a ISO image? what programme?

Ive never had to do this for this century lol long time ago in the old Kazzar days I did

out of thousands of rips with MKV this will be my 1st time

Yes, you just backup to a folder using MakeMKV (make sure to uncheck the decrypt checkbox for these ones!), delete the AACS folder in side of that folder that it will create, and then point MakeMKV at the BDMV file in that folder and it'll load up like any other disc and you can create MKVs from it like normal. Though it will probably be way faster than when you create MKVs from a disc.

You just use the backup to folder feature of MakeMKV (the little folder icon in the top row)

What is the "tell" that indicates that these discs aren't encrypted so I can check in the future?

Okay... made the back-up
Tried opening different .bmdv files (File > Open Files or File > Open DVD Manually), but then nothing happens.
I have tried:
  • /certificate/id.bdmv
  • /bdmv/MovieObj.bdmv
  • /bdmv/index.bdmv
