Recommendations for new blu-ray drives?

#1 Post by penpal » Thu Jul 16, 2026 1:30 am

I recently bought an Asus Zendrive U9M DVD/CD drive off amazon and its pretty nice but wondering if i should return it and try finding a blu-ray drive, but it looks like recently everything by major brands has been discontinued, and the most promising new branded one ive been able to find is an LG BP50NB40 from newegg for around 100$, is that a good deal?
There's also a few Pioneer BDR-XD08TC drives listed on eBay for around 90$, are those more desirable?
I wouldn't want to spend much more than that, and I dont care about 4K.
I've tried looking on Amazon, and all the new stuff is from Chinese no-name brands that are sub 100$ but I rather buy something name brand.
Thank you

Are the bp50nb40 drives from best buy also fake? Seems like it came from a different seller and not directly from best buy.

oh boy - it actually ended up coming from new egg. scammed :/

Are there any legit internal Blu-ray drives (also not concerned with 4k) that are available?

Bought a buffalo off Office Depot, it seemed to come from them directly. Just thinking here but is there a chance it could be cross flashed to 4k, just depends on the drive that’s inside? I got a BDR-212V based on your recommendation last year and have been using it for Blu-ray, works great!! Could THAT be cross flashed at this point? I’m just thinking about future proofing

Yes both should be able to do 4k
Email me the drive info for the 212 and I'll send over the flasher
For the buffalo Marty can do that one too.
