Hi Marty,

I just got an Archgon drive and found that it doesn't work right away with MakeMKV, which has led me here. I'm new to the concept of flashing, but your GUI seems pretty user-friendly. I am a little confused about the different .zip files--I'm assuming I only need the newest version of the GUI (v1.3.6), but I have questions about the All You Need Firmware Pack:

I've seen several warnings about not flashing desktop firmware to slim drives, which I think applies to me with my Archgon drive? And for those who are new to this like I am, that means to AVOID the "Internal Desktop Drives" folder in All You Need? Looking into the Slim External Drives folder, I only see files that say LG and Buffalo. Is there a specific file I need to open once I have selected my drive? Or do I need an Archgon file that is not here in the folder?

Also, I saw something about dumping firmware from the drive. Is that a step that I need to do in order to remove the existing firmware so that I can do the necessary downgrade? And I guess that the folder that will be created is just there to save the files in case I ever need to put them back onto the drive?

The Archgon contains a LG BU40N drive inside it's enclosure.

No, the firmware cannot be dumped, only the important cal data.

Don't be surprised if it won't flash as Archgon changed something in their enclosures that stop flashing commands and libredrive from being passed through to the drive. You would likely have to permanently remove the drive from the enclosure to flash and use. Probably better to return it if you can and get something else.

archgon is likely a LG BU40N
but most archgons dont support flashing in the case

we recommend BU40N 1.03

Ok I will give that one a try. A bit challenging for my little brain trying to decipher all the posts pertaining to drives and firmware. I was just trying to share my experience with the drive I bought (from B&H).

Hi! I bought a LG 5.25 Drive (BH16NS55 1.02) and want to flash it using my linux server (where ARM is installed). Since my Makemkv is the latest i need to flash it with the sdf tool. I downloaded it from mediafire and recognized it's an exe. Is there a way to flash it directly from linux?
My version: MakeMKV v1.18.4 linux(x64-release)

Just use cli on Linux why complicate things
