MakeMKV not ripping some of my Blu-rays and not others?
MakeMKV not ripping some of my Blu-rays and not others?
Hi all. I seem to have encountered a problem I have not had before. For some odd reason MakeMKV will rip some of my Blu-ray titles but not all of them. What am I missing and what should I do? I am running Linux Mint 22.3. On a Asus Gaming V16 laptop. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Re: MakeMKV not ripping some of my Blu-rays and not others?
Do they happen to be very recent titles? Are any/most/all of them UHD ones? Is your drive a LibreDrive?
Also, define "not".
Also, define "not".
Re: MakeMKV not ripping some of my Blu-rays and not others?
They are all older Blu-ray disks and none of them are UHD. Not sure if it is a LibreDrive, it is an Asus SBW-06D2X-U drive. As for "Not": Some Blu-ray's have no issues with MakeMKV and others the drive just spins and does nothing and I get error messages in MakeMKV. I am not sure what to do.

Re: MakeMKV not ripping some of my Blu-rays and not others?
Please post a copy of the information MakeMKV lists about your drive.
Re: MakeMKV not ripping some of my Blu-rays and not others?
It comes up as: Movie Name/dev/sr0. Outside of that I am not sure where to look for the information you might be asking for.
Re: MakeMKV not ripping some of my Blu-rays and not others?
I don't want to get "passive aggressive" but I'm not sure what to do either. I mean, is there a particular reason that you still haven't shared those error messages with us yet?
There's a "box" on the right that would be displayed right after you start MakeMKV, which should contains a few sections of info. (Please copy the text instead of posting a screenshot, especially don't post it as an attachment, as it will simply fail to show up for most of the time.)Outside of that I am not sure where to look for the information you might be asking for.
Re: MakeMKV not ripping some of my Blu-rays and not others?
It is quite long. Here it is:
I hope this helps out.

Re: MakeMKV not ripping some of my Blu-rays and not others?
Huh? This is a log from Handbrake, not MakeMKV, and it was being fed with an MKV file produced by MakeMKV, which means you have already ripped it successfully.
This obviously has nothing to do with "spinning" and/or "not ripping"...

Are these what you saw during ripping though? Or do they just show up when you open the disc?Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading 'BD-ROM ASUS SBC-06D2X-U 1.10 RCDL075543WL' at offset '20382089216'

And is this one of the discs that you cannot rip?Disc Information

If so, then I'd say either the disc is in somewhat a bad state, or the drive you have is getting old and weak, since it's a single layer disc, which should be relatively "easy" to rip. So it's not very likely a power issue.
You can try to clean the disc and laser with appropriate materials and substances (don't ask me what I don't really know; some people here do). Other than that there's probably not much you can do, except getting a (even) better drive.
---
You can also try alternative method like ddrescue and/or even just mount the filesystem and copy the files out with cp / rsync. If those can finish without failure, you can combine the result with the discatt.dat file that MakeMKV produce when you use it to make an encrypted backup (even when that fails at some point), which would then allow you to open the result and proceed with MKV remuxing.
Re: MakeMKV not ripping some of my Blu-rays and not others?
Yes it is a Blu-ray that I am having trouble ripping. Durring the ripping process it has the following:
Yet I was able to rip a different Blu-ray just before this one.

Re: MakeMKV not ripping some of my Blu-rays and not others?
Thanks for posting the information requested.
If you were running a Windows system, then IsoBuster (which has a good reputation for being able to image problematic discs) would be a valid suggestion, but on Linux ddrescue would be the way to go (assuming a careful disc wipe/clean didn't help) - be aware it can take a long time on problematic discs.
That, in itself, would suggest a disc rather than drive problem and given the age of the disc listed, Tomty89's observation seems spot on.DaveB wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2026 5:32 amYet I was able to rip a different Blu-ray just before this one.
