I just plugged in a new LG BU40N (Mfg Date: November 2019). My Windows 11 PC recognizes the new drive which is connected via USB adapter cable. I can insert a Blu-ray disc in it and it reads the info on the disc and is ready to rip. Drive information under the Info section of MakeMKV shows:
OS device name: \Device\DdRom1
Current Profile: BD-ROM
Product: 99999999999999
Revision: FR07
Serial Number: 911HS009563
Firmware date: 2119-05-10 13:48
Bus encryption flags: 1F
Highest AACS version:82
SDFtool Flasher (v.1.3.6) shows a red X next to MT 1959 Platform. Flasher identifies the drive as: F: 000000_FR07_211905101348_911HS009563. MakeMKV shows the same Source identification.
Is this drive un-flashable in this or any state? Could it be an issue with the USB 3.0 to 7+6 13-pin slimline adapter cable I'm using to connect the drive to my PC?
LG BU40N Not Platform MT1959?

I also just purchased an lg bu40n, and I have the same problem. Could you let me know if a new adapter fixes the issue?

Better get a slimline to regular SATA adapter, which would then allow you to choose / use a regular SATA to USB adapter. Because "direct to slimline" is considered more niche, choices you have tend to be "cheap" (in quality).USB 3.0 to 7+6 13-pin slimline adapter cable

I'm using with success this:
https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Hsupez-Sliml ... 163&sr=8-6
and this:
https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Slimline-Ada ... 33&sr=8-10
The USB3.0 version I have behaves similar to yours.
