Newly released UHD not Decrypting

#1 Post by Moviewatcher 10 » Wed Jul 08, 2026 6:35 am

So this is new. Billycar11 helped flash my Pioneer drive, and everything is working smoothly. Everything is ripping: Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD. Everything works perfectly. Picked up a copy of A-24's The Drama today, and this is the first time I've gotten this message that you see above. It just says it can't decrypt the disk. And I'm curious if anybody else has run into this with DVDs in the past. For context, this DVD dropped today. It just came out.

There is no message. Do not use attachements. Copy and paste the text from the log window. You mention UHD in the title but say DVD in your question. Which is it? A DVD, BD or UHD disc? If it's a brand new release UHD disc, there's probably no key for it yet.
Cheers :D

haha, I was using attachments and so confused why it wasnt attaching. It is an UHD BluRay. Came out yesterday. heres what the message says

"Using LibreDrive mode (v02.2 id=393664D791B0)
Using direct disc access mode
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
The AACS dump file "/Users/dc/Library/MakeMKV/MKB20_v82_The_Drama_771A.tgz" was successfully sent for analysis
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc"

Ok, so yes, the decryption keys are not yet available in MakeMKV's hashed keys (HK) database. It looks like the dump file has already been sent. Give it a few days before trying again.

Additionally, you can also try using the public KeyDB file as it may already have a key for your disc. If it doesn't, you can make a post in the Public KeyDB Disc Submissions thread. Just use the template in the first post. That post also has links to SamuraiHL's KeyDB helper tool which, if using Windows, is far easier to use to keep the KeyDB database up to date.
Cheers :D
