Omnidrive Compatibility ?
Has anyone tried the Omnidrive Firmware and does it remain compatible with Libre Drive?

Re: Omnidrive Compatibility ?
I'm going to say it's a rip off of what we can already do here.

Tried on multiple bu40n's and bp50nb40 and works fine.Krawk wrote: Tue Jun 02, 2026 6:46 pm Has anyone tried the Omnidrive Firmware and does it remain compatible with Libre Drive?

I'd love to see makemkv open up libredrive so we could do more with it, but how is it a rip off as I see no way of dumping gamecube, wii or xbox games currently with libredrive?OneDay wrote: Tue Jun 02, 2026 8:33 pm I'm going to say it's a rip off of what we can already do here.
Re: Omnidrive Compatibility ?
Works on my BU40N without any problems so far. Libredrive is still enabled.
It's not a rip off. More an extension to the existing firmware that enables additional read modes to allow ripping of certain game discs: https://github.com/ribshark/omnidriveOneDay wrote: Tue Jun 02, 2026 8:33 pm I'm going to say it's a rip off of what we can already do here.
Re: Omnidrive Compatibility ?
My bad, I only saw the part where he used the sdftool flasher to flash the drives and I was like what a rip off. I watched the whole video and realized I missed the the extra flashing to enable omni.
Re: Omnidrive Compatibility ?
How did you manage to flash the BU40N drive using OmniDrive? I ordered it for games preservation.blind-s33r wrote: Tue Jun 02, 2026 10:37 pmTried on multiple bu40n's and bp50nb40 and works fine.Krawk wrote: Tue Jun 02, 2026 6:46 pm Has anyone tried the Omnidrive Firmware and does it remain compatible with Libre Drive?

As mentioned in my post, MakeMKV doesn't detect any LibreDrive information or the drive platform. SDFTool Flasher also shows no MT1959.

Perhaps it's due to my external enclosure, the Delock 42603.
Re: Omnidrive Compatibility ?
I can confirm: It’s the Delock 42603 enclosure's fault. See another post of mine.
After connecting the BENFEI USB 3.0 to SATA adapter—along with its included 12V/2A power adapter and the CY Slimline SATA (7+6/13-pin) optical drive to SATA (7+15/22-pin) adapter—to my MacBook, MakeMKV now recognizes the drive platform "MT1959" and reports the LibreDrive status as "Possible, not yet enabled."
The 12V power adapter is not needed. Also I was able to test it on the DeskMini A300 as well. It works perfectly now, just like on the MacBook, and is correctly recognized.
Re: Omnidrive Compatibility ?
My current Libre drives work without any special firmware. So I got to wonder if the game rip software really truly needs a drive flash.
Thanks for the replies, at least it won't break Libre!
I remember when the Playstation originally came out and CDRWIN was the program of choice, was so perplexed to see why it wasn't working correctly. Always figured it was a hidden track or something the software itself would never see.

Re: Omnidrive Compatibility ?
And yeah, calling it a rip-off seems a bit unfair—it’s more of an extension that adds additional read modes for certain game discs while keeping the existing LibreDrive functionality.Mr. Red wrote: Tue Jun 09, 2026 11:58 am Works on my BU40N without any problems so far. Libredrive is still enabled.

Re: Omnidrive Compatibility ?
Actually the "core" of LibreDrive is really a part of MakeMKV, not any firmware patching. It's just that newer "LG kei" firwmare requires patching to "support" (as in, not forbid / reject) LibreDrive, and the patched firmware are known as MK firmware.Marien wrote: Thu Aug 13, 2026 7:10 am it’s more of an extension that adds additional read modes for certain game discs while keeping the existing LibreDrive functionality.
OmniDrive is based on old "LG kei" firmware, which is LibreDrive-supporting "by itself" like Pioneer (kei) firmware, which is why you would see "Firmware type: Original (unpatched)" under LibreDrive information.
So extension (as in, firmware patching), yes. "while keeping the existing LibreDrive functionality", yes. But just for the record, OmniDrive is neither an extension of LibreDrive nor that of MK firmware.
P.S. AFAIK LibreDrive doesn't exactly introduce "new things" to the drive either. What it really does is just sort of temporarily "exposing" what is already there / implemented in the original firmware (and deactivating stuff like bus encryption). (Therefore, to "rip off" LibreDrive, you really need to steal the microcode whatsoever from MakeMKV and make it part of your program. It can't even be considered a "rip off" if someone finds / implements a different way to "expose" and "deactivate" the same stuff. In fact, it even seems that mike at least once thought of making the microcode "redistributable" or so, but I guess the plan eventually changed.)
