LG BP50NB40 failure

Originally Rom ver 1.03, I flashed BP60NB10 1.00 and had been using it since November or so (purchased from Best Buy).

Recently developed an issue where it would drop connection to the PC when I opened the tray. I would have to open a new instance of MakeMKV to redetect the drive.
Yesterday it stopped detecting discs altogether, and also now the tray will not open at all, either via the button or software. Had to use the manual release.

Did some reading and saw a few people managed to recover by reflashing/recovering in SDF flasher. SDF detects the drive but gives an error when I try to flash either the same ROM or another.

Any ideas, or am I on my second dead drive? (previously lost a Verbatim 43888/BU40N)

likely not a fw issue
you describing is as disconnecting when you pop the tray makes me think its internal cable related
have seen that before if the cable was routed/sticking out wrong it will rub through or break
