Make MKV see and detect the Blu-ray drive. But once you insert a 4K disc, it spins and ejects the disc. It does this to all discs. It’s like it’s not detecting the disc at all. Is this a software issue or a bad drive? I bought new cables and nothing is working. It was working before. any help will work thanks guys

need help with Blu ray drive not detecting
Re: need help with Blu ray drive not detecting
What does MakeMKV say about your drive? Does it support LibreDrive?
Re: need help with Blu ray drive not detecting
I am also experiencing a drive not detecting error. I have used MakeMKV with my LG WH16NS40 since 2024 without any problems. Suddenly, this week I try to rip some new BRs I got and I get a "The program can't find any usable optical drives." error message. I tried restarting my Mac, I tried unplugging the drive for a few moments and plugging it back in, I reinstalled the program, I tried another drive, all with the same result. It will not detect any drives.
I'm running an M4 Mac Mini Tahoe 26.5.1. Any ideas?

Re: need help with Blu ray drive not detecting
You mean like the drive is detected by the OS but just not MakeMKV? Usually this only happens on Linux -- when the sg ("scsi generic") kernel module is not loaded. (It provides sort of an alternative interface for "talking" to the drive.) AFAIK nothing similar could happen on Windows, probably not macOS either.
If not even the OS can detect it then it's probably dead one way or another. (Since it's a "desktop drive" I suppose you are using a USB adapter / enclosure? Maybe that is dead.)
