Ripping is fine, but what about burning ?

Hello Guys,
My BU40N now can read UHD discs. Fine.
But what is the maximum it can burn ? Single layer ? Dual layer ? or triple or XL ?

I haven't tried it, but according to Hitachi-LG, you can burn 128GB quad-layer discs with it. These are probably very hard to find nowadays though, but you can still find 100GB BDXL discs fairly easily.

Thank you for your answer. I'm used to burn single layers BR. Now I may need dual or triple layers, because I will need to put more stuff on them.
I was worried that flashing the UHD firmware may have impaired the writing abilities... And given the current pricing of burning material, I do not want to waste any....

"DE" firmware
This is an official firmware image with a single byte changed, so this firmware can be flashed over the latest firmware. The changed byte enables firmware downgrade. No other changes are made to firmware image. This is a good option to downgrade a firmware and get back the features that were available in previous versions, when previous firmware versions are available.

"MK" firmware
This is a custom firmware made by MakeMKV team. MK firmware is a patched official firmware image, with changes as minimal as possible, only to enable LibreDrive support. The MK firmware has the following properties:

Made from the latest available official firmware.
Re-enabled vendor commands to update microcode in memory.
Re-enabled ability to read UHD discs (if drive was capable, and disabled in firmware).
Removed firmware downgrade check (if present in firmware).
Removed firmware "encrypted" downgrade check (if present in firmware).
No other changes.

So, as you can see, no matter whether you're using the 1.00 firmware or the 1.03-MK firmware, I find it unlikely that it could have impaired the writing abilities of the drive.

Burning discs is something that belongs to the last millenium. Store on external hard drives or on a NAS. It's cheaper and you don't wear the laser of your precious optical drive. Just use it as a "tool" to rip and not for anything else.

For such purposes I have a micro SD card with a capacity of 400GB. Just send it in an evelope as a letter. The receiver just needs an adapter and a USB card reader and just plug it in the smart TV or computer.
