Have you tried ripping any 4K discs? I think your good to go with the firmware you have.

Are you using some old version of MakeMKV? As per the list here the BDR-211M 8801ID60 1.52 firmware should be supported as LibreDrive.

The firmware itself should have UHD support, so you don't need to crossflash. Nevertheless you could update to 1.53, but neither does the official updater nor BDRFlash has a macOS build (although they might work through wine).

P.S. You might want to think twice before updating to 1.54, because it prevent the drive from being (cross-)flashable for BDRFlash. (Although Billy will show up to offer a paid solution.)

I apologize, I am new to this. I see the status is possible, not yet enabled for the LibreDrive. How do I enable? Yes, I plan on ripping 4k discs.
Will I break the drive if I try running Makemkv?

I am using MAKEMKV version 1.18.3

No
Try putting a 4K movie in and see if mkv sees it. It should also updates the _private_data.tar

Or, if that doesn't work, can also consider removing (or renaming) the whole .MakeMKV directory in your home / user directory, just in case some old residue files (sdf.bin?) there somehow "suppresses" the support.
