Does makemkv properly transfer the DRC flags from AC3?

#1 Post by microjazz » Tue Dec 01, 2009 3:39 am

I've used makemkv 1.4.8 on a few of my blu rays and watch them on my wdtv. One thing I've noticed is that I'm constantly adjusting the volume during playback because loud sounds are too loud and talking can be too soft. I also have to do this with playback on my computer. From what I can understand, DTS does not use dynamic range compression but AC3 does. Is makemkv properly handling the DRC flags when it extracts the core audio? Or am I doing something wrong or is this a receiver issue? One thing I should note is that I also notice this problem with DTS core audio as well. Although I don't understand it because apparently DTS doesn't use DRC at all. Anyways, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I can only say that MakemKV does not change bitstream at all - it repackages it into MKV container bit for bit. There has to be some other reason.
