Help with Pioneer BDR-209 sudden failure
Help with Pioneer BDR-209 sudden failure
I'm trying to troubleshoot my drive. I only started using it in January, an IT friend of mine bought it a few years ago, used it twice and put it away, so its basically new. I ripped about 700 movies and 600 TV episodes in past few months and everything was going smoothly, I think I had 2 failures the whole time. Suddenly tonight I had a failure, IPC error. I shut it down unplugged it for quite a while, reset my computer and when I plug it back in, the green light comes on for a moment then nothing. Am I just shit out of luck? I can't seem to find any reliable info. Its in an external enclosure and plugged in, exact same set up I've been using for months now, no changes in power, plugs, not even any power surges while it was powered on.

Insufficient Power: External drives often need more power than a single USB port provides. Use a powered USB hub or an enclosure with its own power supply MakeMKV forums.
Bad Cable/Port: Switch USB cables or use a different USB port, preferably directly on the computer rather than a hub.
Dirty/Damaged Disc: The drive may fail while attempting to read a scratched or dirty spot, causing it to disconnect. Clean the disc thoroughly.
macOS Specifics: It may be a temporary OS issue, sometimes resolved by re-running software patches (e.g., Open Core Patcher) MakeMKV forums.
If the error persists across multiple discs, it may indicate a failing drive.
