LG WH16NS40, mfg Aug ‘14 - reports 1939 w/ 1959 chip inside?

Post by sorjal » Wed Mar 18, 2026 6:09 pm

So I located an old LG WH16NS40 drive, but noted that it was manufactured before 2016 (2014 08 26 from label). When I open MKV it shows MT1939 as does the firmware updating tool posted here on these forums. I decided to open it for laughs and inside found a MediaTek MT1959UWDN chip, which I’m guessing is a MT1959. The full text on the chip reads

MEDIATEK
ARM
MT1959UWDN
1422-BCSL
FC4KFMAS
01XAP34MM
03XB3P520800

Is there some way to get the drive to register as MT1959, etc.?

Let it be.

Independend to the chip it's a MT-1939 as MakeMKV shows and no drive with production year 2014 is compatible for flashing.

No, it is a MT1939 from 2014 and is incompatible. It can never be made compatible. If you try to flash it you will brick it.
Cheers :D
