Am I understanding this correctly?
The BluRay that I have been using for years with MakeMKV is no long supported because it doesn't support 4K BluRay?
It can't do DVDs or normal BluRays anymore unless you support the hardware?
What kind of an idea is this? Why is there no backwards compatibility? Why isn't there simply a warning that new formats might/will not be supported?
Why is there such a breaking change?
Is there a way to get my old BluRay working again without resorting to 1.17.7 and never ever getting an update again?
If LibreDrive isn't supported then MakeMKV can't even do DVDs?

No, you are not.
The kind of idea that you seem to have conjured up yourself by severely misinterpreting several forum posts?
It isn't a breaking change - it is a regression which affects certain Linux distributions. The distinction is important.
My recollection is that you only have to resort to v1.17.7 temporarily and run MakeMKV once to populate your local _private_data.tar file. After the file has been successfully generated, you can upgrade to the latest version of MakeMKV and continue to use whichever piece of shit drive you happen to own.red-lichtie wrote: ↑Mon Mar 16, 2026 1:04 amIs there a way to get my old BluRay working again without resorting to 1.17.7 and never ever getting an update again?

I have found a way to get the latest version (1.18.3) working.
Edit and add your drives name to "sdf_Stop",
In my case it looks like this:
With that, the original functionality returns.
Edit
Code: Select all
.MakeMKV/settings.confIn my case it looks like this:
Code: Select all
sdf_Stop = "TEAC_BD-W26SS-B_2.02_{serial number}"
