Since that drive has the MT1939 chipset, it is too old to support ripping UHDs. If you try to flash it you'll brick the drive.

Yep, as dcoke22 and Billycar11 said, this drive is too old (2014 model & MT1939 drive platform) to be flashed for UHD compatibility. It is already libredrive enabled (helpful for standard blu-ray) which is the best it will ever get.Wolf-3.5.9 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 19, 2026 10:22 pmCan anyone please point me to the correct file to flash this drive. Ok, Thanks for the replies.
Re: LibreDrive firmware for WH16NS40, MT1939 chipset, Firmware 1.02
I just wonder how LibreDrive was enabled for this without updating the firmware. The LG drives that I have used with stock firmware do not have LibreDrive enabled until the firmware is replaced.

Re: LibreDrive firmware for WH16NS40, MT1939 chipset, Firmware 1.02
Some older LG firmware versions were libredrive enabled as is. My BH16NS55 with it's original v1.02 firmware from 2017 was already libredrive enabled.
Cheers

Re: LibreDrive firmware for WH16NS40, MT1939 chipset, Firmware 1.02
I just checked my notes and realized that my LG UH12NS40, manufactured April, 2016, was indicated as LibreDrive enabled with its "Original (unpatched)" firmware. But my LG BH30N, manufactured June, 2010, is not LibreDrive enabled (which is more typical in my experience prior to replacing firmware).

That's because the latter drive is so old.kaysee wrote: ↑Mon Feb 23, 2026 12:55 amI just checked my notes and realized that my LG UH12NS40, manufactured April, 2016, was indicated as LibreDrive enabled with its "Original (unpatched)" firmware. Re: LibreDrive firmware for WH16NS40, MT1939 chipset, Firmware 1.02
Yes, the latter drive is so old. But newer drives (in my experience) also are not LibreDrive enabled until the firmware is replaced. So it seems there is a very small proportion of LG drives manufactured during a couple of years that are LibreDrive enabled with their original firmware. Older or newer units are not LibreDrive enabled initially.

Re: LibreDrive firmware for WH16NS40, MT1939 chipset, Firmware 1.02
Yes, most of the MT1959 drives between 2016 and 2019 were libredrive enabled out of the box but it really depended on the firmware version as we only had access to certain firmware versions at the time libredrive was first created. There were also a couple of libredrive enabled MT1939 firmware versions from 2014-2015 so those with MT1939 drives and those firmware versions got a suprise when they opened up MakeMKV.kaysee wrote: ↑Mon Feb 23, 2026 2:14 pmYes, the latter drive is so old. You need to remember, it isn't the drive model/mnaufacture date that determined this, it is simply a matter of what firmware versions we had access to at the time libredrive was created. Whatever firmwares we had at the time is what was added initially.
All drives from 2020 have encrypted firmware so none of them were libredrive enabled out of the box.
